Wireless router connection problems or failure

WIRELESS ROUTER CONNECTION PROBLEMS OR FAILURE

This blog is intended to outline remedies when a laptop or PC fails to connect to a router or when only able to get local connection with no internet connection. There is no need for pictures or illustrations in this post as they are unnecessary.

I have had this problem many times in the recent past and have found an easy remedy which initially involves searching and downloading relevant drivers for your specific laptop, Net-Book or Desktop PC.

My problems started when we upgraded our Router (Netgear) to another make with our ISP. We all have had at some point connect/disconnect problems for a short amount of time when servers are being updated or modified. But what we experienced was absolutely ridiculous being disconnected up to 20 times in any given hour of the day. Eventually it was decided that it was a faulty Router, which was initially denied by our ISP. So we get the new Router a few days later, setup was quick and successful at least for our Windows 7 64 bit laptop. It was a different story for my Net-book with XP and my Notebook with Vista.

Every possible remedy or fix I tried from help files and online help through our other Notebook were unsuccessful. All help pointed to a driver problem so after updating drivers many times with no improvement for my Wireless Lan 802.11b/g, Ethernet controller & fax Modem, I decided to search for the laptop maker, windows version and model.

In my case:-

TOSHIBA EQUIUM P300 16T, PSPC2E 003003KS WINDOWS VISTA 32 BIT,

When you get to the makers site, not a driver site as you would probably find that it may screw up your system and the cost of the software even though it says free, it is not, (as I found out the hard way). When attempting to fix a computer problem I always look for the free route before quitting or using a repair shop. Every driver for your make and model system should be found easily. I decided to download every driver available and once I had each driver, installed them 1 by 1. When I had got all the drivers I cut them all from downloads & pasted them to my desktop.

INSTALLATION OF DRIVERS

Now, the way to install the drivers, don’t go through update driver, just manually run the driver setup accepting every warning because the drivers downloaded are for your make and model alone.

If you go through driver update you will find that most of the drivers are Microsoft’s compatible drivers. If a Service Pack is installed, a lot of drivers are in the package, so problems might raise up but do reject the service pack as your drivers will always be available to correct your components.

ANNOYING AND TIME WASTING - IT IS NOT SO INSTALL WITH CONFIDENCE.

The annoying thing that I encountered was the restart of the system for every driver (At the time I didn't know how successful it was going to be, but it was well worth the time and effort.

FEAR NOT WHEN OVERRIDING WARNINGS FROM MICROSOFT CERTIFIED DRIVERS.

Remember that all the drivers downloaded are for the computer or the laptop you have, made by the component manufacturer of your hardware. After I installed all my drivers, like me , your system will probably ask you for your router code and password, so having these to hand would be advisable and save time.

I found that I only needed the Wireless Lan 802.11b/g, Ethernet controller & fax Modem drivers to correct my problems. It was however useful for me to update the bios for my motherboard & other drivers. I think my system is running very well indeed now and faster as well. It is my preference to manually accept updates from Microsoft especially with drivers so that you know what drivers are running on your system. Just for peace of mind I have saved all my drivers to a folder on the desktop for any future driver problems, knowing that by manually reinstalling the downloaded drivers will correct any future failure.

CHECK FOR UPDATES 3 MONTHLY
Every 3 months I go to the manufacturers site to check for any driver updates, replacing the old for new on the PC and in the driver folder. Thanks for reading, and GOOD LUCK if you try my remedy procedure.

DISCLAIMER WELL NOT REALLY - JUST A WORD ABOUT ME

I am not a trained computer or laptop engineer, but have a broad view of how a PC or laptop works & the probable cause of many problems. I am totally self taught and trial and error has given me the knowledge I have, although I am still learning as everyone is.

I STRIVE TO HELP WITH NO COST AND LESS INCOME FOR THE SHARKS OUT THERE.

I was quoted £50 just to look at my laptop, before correcting any problems so I decided that do the job myself for free, plus the cost of parts.
